As soon as someone returns to the UK from a red or an amber list country, they will be required to:
- Stay quarantined for ten days,
- And take PCR tests on Days 2 and 8.
Exemptions to these requirements include amber list country returnees who are fully vaccinated or under 18 years of age. They are only required to take the Day 2 PCR test on returning to the UK.
Whichever post-return tests are applicable – only the Day 2 test or both PCR tests – must be booked in before returning to the UK. The test booking details must be entered in the pre-flight passenger locator form. If you fail to do this, you risk hefty fines and other penalties on reaching the UK.
What should I do on my arrival in England?
When you return to the UK from an amber list country, you must quarantine at home for ten days and take the Day 2 and Day 8 tests during this time. Unless, of course, you are exempt because you are fully vaccinated, you only need to take a Day 2 PCR test in this case.
And if you return from a visit to a red list country, you are required to quarantine at an approved hotel. The arrangements for hotel quarantine must be made before travelling to the UK via the government’s website.
Can I come to your Exeter clinic while I am self-isolating?
You can travel to our clinic for your tests while you are still self-isolating as long as you have a pre-booked appointment with us.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you must use our at-home tests instead.

Will you provide a reference number to include in my passenger locator form?
Yes, you will be given a unique reference number (starting VIVOC) once you complete booking your PCR tests. It is crucial that you not forget to insert in your passenger locator form.
How will I receive my test results?
We will send the test results to your email address.
When will I receive my results?
You can expect to receive the test results one day after your sample is collected at our clinic. However, there is always the chance that it might take a little longer. On the rarest of occasions, sequence testing has been known to take up to 72 hours.
Also, samples collected during in-clinic appointments after 5 pm are sent to the laboratory the next day. This delays the delivery of results by up to 24 hours.
What should I do if I test positive?
Regardless of which test you receive a positive result for, your quarantine period resets to a fresh ten days starting from one day after you had taken the test.
For example, if your Day 8 test comes back positive, you must self-isolate for another ten days starting from the day after taking the test.
What should I do if I test negative?
If both your tests come back negative, your quarantine ends as soon as the ten days are up.
