Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
While the government has ceased advice against travel to countries on the amber list, it still has not given the go-ahead to use NHS COVID-19 tests for travelling.
Per regulation, travellers going abroad must use PCR tests that are provided by suppliers approved by the government.
Our PCR tests are being catered specifically with foreign travel requirements in mind.
What is a PCR Test?
A polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, test is a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) that is used to detect the presence of COVID-19 RNA in a person’s samples.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
Countries around the world have put up all kinds of restrictions around foreign travel to facilitate better protection against the spread of COVID-19 and its several variants. Pre-departure PCR test requirement is the most common measure utilized by almost every country globally.
When should I book the test?
You must book the test per your destination country’s entry requirement. Some countries request that tests be taken within 72 hours of departure, while many others require visitors to take their tests 48 hours before arrival.
You can find the latest entry requirements of every country you are allowed to travel to from the UK on the government’s website.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
Our RT-PCR test service includes the provision of fit-to-fly certificates with every conclusively negative result.
Can I buy at-home tests instead of coming to the Derby clinic for testing?
Of course, you can.
Head on over to this page to purchase your at-home PCR test for travel.
However, please keep in mind that PCR tests by post take longer to process results compared to in-clinic tests. We strongly recommend taking the test in-clinic if your destination country requires you to take the pre-departure PCR test within 72 hours of travel or less.
Is your laboratory regulated?
Yes, it is. Our lab is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the certificate number CRT1-4708702735.
How reliable is the test?
It is the most reliable COVID-19 test there is. Experts consider the PCR test to be the gold standard.
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
No, it will not. Instead, please use our immune response test if you want to check whether you have had an infection previously.
Where is your clinic located?
Inside Aston Court Hotel
What should I do if I receive a positive result?
You must immediately begin self-isolating as soon as you receive a positive result from your PCR test. This quarantine period will be for ten days. You will only be able to resume your travel plans following a negative PCR test.
