Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
The COVID-19 tests provided by the government are not to be used for foreign travel. Travellers must take their PCR tests from approved private suppliers.
Our tests are tailored specifically to serve the purpose of foreign travel. Our testing service includes providing fit-to-fly certificates with every negative result. We also offer same-day and next-day results options.
What is a PCR Test?
PCR tests use swab samples taken from the throat and nose to find out whether a person has a current infection of COVID-19.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
As a part of the global effort to thwart the cross-border spread of COVID-19 and its variants, PCR tests are being used internationally to vet foreign visitors for current infections.
Therefore, taking PCR tests have become essential when travelling abroad.
When should I book the test?
You must not book travel PCR tests until you have the latest information on the entry requirements of your destination. The time window during which the test can be taken before travelling varies from country to country. These assigned time windows are also constantly being updated with new data surfacing.
At the time of writing, the most common time frames are within 72 hours of departure and 48 hours of arrival.
You can find up-to-date entry requirements for all countries on the government’s website.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
Yes, you will. Our testing service offers everything required for safe foreign travel, including comprehensive fit-to-fly certificates.
Can I buy at-home tests instead of coming to the Exeter clinic for testing?
Of course, you can buy VIVO Clinic’s at-home tests here.
However, if your destination requires a test taken within a short time before departure or arrival, we recommend taking an in-clinic test. At-home PCR tests take longer when it comes to processing the results.
Is your laboratory regulated?
Yes, it is. Our lab is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the certificate number CRT1-4708702735.
How reliable is the test?
While no test is 100% accurate, PCR tests come close. Experts consider it to be the ‘gold standard’ when it comes to COVID-19 detection methods.
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
PCR tests can only be used for finding a current COVID-19 infection in a person. If you want to check whether you have had an infection previously, you can try using our immune response tests.
Where is your clinic located?
Pynes Hill Business Centre
What should I do if I receive a positive result?
On receiving a positive PCR test result, you must enter self-isolation immediately. The self-isolation period will last ten days, after which you may resume your plans to travel.
