Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
The use of the NHS COVID-19 tests for foreign travel has been disallowed by the government. People going abroad must use the travel PCR tests from suppliers authorized by the government only. Our tests are perfectly ideal for foreign travel as they come with next-day results services and free fit-to-fly certificates.
What is a PCR Test?
PCR tests are a type of Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) used for detecting the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in a person’s system.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
The current global situation has led to all countries tightening border restrictions. It is near impossible to enter a foreign country without proving the absence of COVID-19 infection first. For screening purposes, negative PCR tests are the primary choice of governments worldwide.
How is an RT-PCR test different?
RT-PCR tests, unlike the standard PCR tests, use the additional ‘reverse transcription’ step when identifying whether a person’s samples have traces of the infection.
Some countries specify RT-PCR tests as the requirement from foreign travellers – they will not accept regular PCR tests. However, all other countries recognize RT-PCR tests and PCR tests as equivalent – they accept results from both tests.
All our tests are RT-PCR tests.
When should I book the test?
Check your destination’s current entry requirement on the government’s website before booking your test. The time window in which a test must be taken differs for every country. Thus it is important to verify the requirement specific to your destination first.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
Yes, we supply comprehensive fit-to-fly certificates with all our conclusively negative PCR test results.
Can I buy at-home tests instead of coming to the Guildford clinic for testing?
You can purchase at-home PCR test kits here.
Be advised, most destinations require results from tests taken between 48 and 72 hours prior to departure. As these tests take up to 48 hours for results to be processed and sent back to you, they may not be suitable for travelling to many places.
Is your laboratory regulated?
Yes, it is. Our lab is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the certificate number CRT1-4708702735.
How reliable is the test?
Experts consider PCR tests to be the most reliable method of detecting COVID-19 infections.
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
No, PCR tests only check for current infections.
You can order the immune response tests for the purpose of checking if you have had an infection previously.
Where is your clinic located?
Holiday Inn Guildford
What should I do if I receive a positive result?
On receiving a positive test result, you must postpone your travels and enter quarantine immediately.
You can only resume your plans after you have self-isolated for ten days and produce a negative PCR test.
For support and advice during your self-isolation, you can contact the NHS online or by dialling 111.
