Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
Tests booked through the Government website are not for recreational travel purposes and do not supply you with a fit-to-fly certificate. Unnecessary strain is being put on the government system by those attempting to book tests for travel.
Our in-clinic tests are for travel purposes only. If you have COVID-19 symptoms you should book a test via the Government website or buy a test from our online shop.
What is a PCR Test?
Swab based PCR tests detect current Covid-19 infection and are reliable enough to be trusted by many countries as an entry requirement.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
To stem the spread of Covid-19, most countries have introduced strict requirements for entry. PCR tests are now required for most popular international travel destinations. A swab is taken in-clinic and sent to our laboratory. You will then receive a results sheet via email. If the results is negative the results sheet is classed as a fit-to-fly certificate.
When should I book the test?
It’s important that you first confirm the required test window for your destination. This is most commonly 72 hours but it does vary depending on the country and it is always subject to change. Once you know the duration of the test window you can view our booking calendar using the button at the top of the page. When viewing the calendar the day and time you will receive your results is listed by each appointment slot. Use this information to book a suitable appointment time and date.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
Yes, as long as your results are negative. You will receive your results sheet via email (sample below). If negative, the email can be used as a fit-to-fly certification.
Can I buy tests, rather than coming to the Middlesbrough clinic for testing?
Home test kits are available from our shop. However, these swab samples still need to be posted to our lab, so the kit option may not be suitable depending on the window you have to get tested and receive your results.
How reliable is the test?
The test has 100% sensitivity
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
No. A PCR test looks for a current infection.
Where is your clinic located?
Park View Medical Clinic
276 Marton Road
What should I do if I receive a positive result?
If you receive a positive result, this means that you are currently infected with COVID-19, and you could pose a risk to others around you. Therefore, you should self-isolate immediately, and inform those you have been in contact with in the last 7 days in case this result affects them.
If you would like further information on what you should do if you receive a positive result, you should visit https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19 or contact the NHS on 111.
Which countries can I travel to?
The countries to which you can currently travel and their respective regulations are continuously evolving. We recommend that you visit the Government webpage which is kept up to date with the latest information and developments.
