Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
The NHS tests have been made unavailable for foreign travel by the UK government. When visiting overseas countries, UK travellers can only use PCR tests supplied by government-approved test providers.
What is a PCR Test?
PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, test is a form of Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) that is used to determine if a person is currently infected by SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
Due to the global COVID-19 situation, governments around the world only permit foreign travellers into their countries following a negative PCR test.
How is an RT-PCR test different?
RT-PCR test is a polymerase chain reaction test that uses a ‘reverse transcription’ process to identify whether COVID-19 RNA is present in a person’s samples.
Certain countries only accept RT-PCR tests as standard from foreign visitors. The rest will accept both PCR and RT-PCR tests without prejudice.
All our tests are RT-PCR tests so that every country in the world accepts our results.
When should I book the test?
It is essential to know your destination country’s entry requirement before booking the test. This is because every country has their own rules on the validity of PCR tests. Some countries require tests taken within 48 hours of arrival, and certain countries will accept tests taken within 72 hours of departure, while other countries may offer completely different time windows within which to take the test. The government’s website lists up-to-date entry requirements for all countries.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
If your PCR test is negative, we will supply you with a comprehensive fit-to-fly certificate that will be attested by the laboratory professional who carried out the test.
Can I buy at-home tests instead of coming to the Nottingham clinic for testing?
Yes, our at-home test kits can be purchased here.
Please note, most travel destinations require that the tests are taken within 72 hours of departure. For travelling to these countries and others with tighter time windows, the home test may not be suitable. Home test results take up to 48 hours to process from the time our laboratory receives the test samples.
Is your laboratory regulated?
Yes, it is. Our lab is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the certificate number CRT1-4708702735.
How reliable is the test?
Among the several available COVID-19 detection methods, PCR tests are considered to be the most reliable by experts.
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
Unfortunately, it cannot. PCR tests only check for current infections.
You can order the immune response tests to check for previous infections.
Where is your clinic located?
Based inside West Bridgford Therapy Rooms
152c Radcliffe Road
What should I do if I receive a positive result?
If you are positive for COVID-19, you must enter self-isolation immediately. You will be unable to travel internationally or locally until you have tested negative in a subsequent test.
You can contact the NHS online or by dialling 111 for more advice during your self-isolation period.
