  • Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests

Government/NHS tests cannot be used for travel purposes as no results sheet or fit-to-fly certification is given. Our tests are recognised by all airlines and a full results sheet is sent via email the day after you come in for a test.

  • Why do I need a PCR test to travel?

As the pandemic is still ongoing, most countries have made it a mandatory entry requirement for visitors to show a negative PCR test result.

  • What is a PCR Test?

A PCR test looks for RNA related to a current Covid-19 infection. The laboratory analyses a swab sample which is taken from your throat and nose.

  • How is an RT-PCR test different?

Both PCR tests and RT-PCR tests analyse swab samples from the nose and throat to detect COVID-19 infections. However, RT-PCR differs in its detection method by using a ‘reverse transcription’ process.

While the RT-PCR test result can be used to enter a country requiring a PCR test, the latter cannot be used for travelling to a country that explicitly requests an RT-PCR test.

Taking an RT-PCR will cover all the bases if you are unsure of your destination country’s entry requirement.

  • When should I book the test?

Please refer to the specific entry requirement of your destination country before booking the test. The most common prerequisite is a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours of departure. However, this is not a definite rule, and this time window is bound to change from country to country.

Please visit the government’s website for the latest foreign travel guidance and what to do when returning to the UK.

Our best advice is to book your test early enough that it does not interfere with your travel, but not so early that the test result is invalid by the time you arrive at your destination.

For your convenience we offer two packages: same-day results and next-day results.

  • What do I need to bring with me to the test?

You need to bring a photo ID to the test. It can be your passport or driving license.

  • Will I get a travel certificate?

Yes. If you get a negative result on your RT-PCR test, we will provide you with a certificate. This document will be attested by the medical professional who analysed your swab samples and includes certification details of our laboratory.

  • Can I buy tests, rather than coming to the Watford clinic for testing?

Yes, we provide at-home PCR test kits. You can place an order for one here.

We must inform you that the at-home test may not be suitable for countries that require a test taken within 72 hours of travel. Our at-home test results take up to 48 hours to be ready.

  • How reliable is the test?

      The test has 100% sensitivity

  • Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?

No. A PCR test looks for a current infection.

  • What should I do if I receive a positive result?
