Our Tests in Comparison to Government / NHS Tests
In order to reduce strain on the NHS, the government has forbidden the use of NHS COVID-19 tests for travel purposes. Travellers going abroad must acquire travel PCR tests from suppliers approved by the government.
Our PCR testing services have been set up with foreign travel as the primary priority. You will receive attested fit-to-fly certificates from us if your test comes back negative.
What is a PCR Test?
The polymerase chain reaction or PCR test involves using swab samples from human subjects to test for the presence of COVID-19 RNA, thereby determining if the subject is currently infected.
Why do I need a PCR test for travel?
PCR test for travel is a part of the precautionary measures employed by governments around the world due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and its foreign variants.
By restricting foreign visitors to only the people who have tested negative on PCR tests, countries ensure the safety of their own citizens and protect the success of the vaccine rollout.
In essence, it has become impossible to visit any country without first testing negative on a PCR test.
When should I book the test?
Every country has its own rules regarding how long until a PCR test becomes invalid. Therefore, each has its own rules of early a test can be taken before departure.
For instance, some countries require a PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel, and other countries require test results prepared 48 hours before the flight.
It is crucial that you consult with the government’s foreign travel advice page for the entry requirement of the country you intend to visit before booking your test.
Will I get a fit-to-fly certificate?
Yes, you will. Our comprehensive fit-to-fly certificates are recognized globally by every country and major airline.
Can I buy at-home tests instead of coming to the York clinic for testing?
Yes. You may buy our at-home PCR test kits instead of taking an in-clinic test.
However, please be advised that the at-home tests may not be suitable for travelling to countries with tight testing time windows. The at-home test results are processed within 48 hours of the sample being received by our laboratory.
Is your laboratory regulated?
Yes, it is. Our lab is registered with the Care Quality Commission under the certificate number CRT1-4708702735.
How reliable is the test?
While many COVID-19 detection methods are actively being employed with varying levels of success, experts consider the PCR tests to be the most reliable in terms of determining current infections in people.
Will the test tell me if I’ve recently had the virus?
Unfortunately, PCR tests can only check for current COVID-19 infections. However, you can use our at-home immune response test to check for an earlier infection.
