2017 is the years of the super foods…
2017 is well and truly upon us! Synonymous with excess, Christmas has left us all feeling bloated and guilty as we reluctantly use a screwdriver to make a new hole in our belts!
Don’t panic though, we’re here to introduce you to 5 super foods you may not have tried before. They’re all super healthy and very tasty.
Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah)
These small grains have a robust texture with just a suggestion of bitterness. They’ve been a well-kept secret for years but are now beginning to come into the limelight and you can find them in all the major supermarkets, usually in the whole foods section. To the Incas, Quinoa was like rice. They grew it in the Andes which, of course, are at the end of the Armees.
Rich in all 8 of the essential Amino acids, Quinoa is a complete protein, setting it apart from rice and wheat. It’s also jammed packed with other great stuff like iron and fibre and to top it off, it’s gluten free.

Blueberries
You’ve probably had these before but these yummy berries are packed with goodness so you may want to build them into your daily diet.
Blueberries contain flavonoids which can prevent high blood pressure according to a thorough 14 year study involving 200,000 participants. Each blueberry is crammed with fibre and vitamins C & K. What this means that blueberries can help increase the health of your brain and improve your ability to remember things and prevent degenerative age conditions.
Believe it or not, the vitamins and antioxidants in blueberries can help to relieve stress and improve your mood.

Kale
Kale divides people. In one camp there are the devout consumers that wax lyrical about kale’s numerous health benefits, in the other camp there’s the media speculation that kale can also affect one’s health negatively, so it’s kale of two cities (get it?). We would encourage you to conduct your own research on super foods before becoming a kale convert but for now let’s just look into some of remarkable properties of kale.
Kale is a great source of plant protein, providing nearly 3 grams per serving. It provides over 130% of our daily recommended amount of vitamin C and over 1000% of our daily vitamin K!
