Staying fit over 60
May 2017 | Reading time: 2 minutes
At around 60 years old, you may find it a difficult task to maintain the active lifestyle that you had during your 20’s and 30’s. That’s where you need to pay special attention towards how to stay fit over 60.
Here is a list of few effective tips that you can follow to help you stay fit over 60!
- Look for a retirement sport
Retirement might still be a long way off yet, especially in the current political climate, but looking for a retirement sport can be considered as one of the best options available for you to stay fit over 60. Plenty of retirement sports are available for you to try. Horseshoes, golf, cricket, hiking and shuffleboard are to name a few. But why be so cliché? Almost any sport is suitable for over 60’s, maybe with a little adjustment to pace.
- Eat unprocessed food as much as possible
After 60, you should try to eat vegetables like a rabbit. In fact, you can think about incorporating a complete colour spectrum of vegetables in your meals. You should also include fibrous whole grains and lean cuts of meat in your diet. In addition, you may need to drink more water in order to maintain your fitness levels.
- Read a new book every month
After 60, you shouldn’t just focus on physical fitness. You should pay attention towards mental fitness as well. Reading a new book every month could give you the opportunity to maintain mental fitness levels. In other words, reading a book has the ability to keep your brain engaged. It can reduce your stress levels, too.
- Add cardio into day to day life
Maintaining cardiovascular health is one of the biggest challenges faced by people who are over 60 years of age. That’s where you need to think about adding cardio exercises into your day to day life.
Don’t limit yourself to what sort of exercise you undertake. Just be sensible and find your personal comfort zone.
